About Greenwich CDA
Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency (GCDA) provides intensive support to
communities that become active in solving their own difficulties. Controlled by a voluntary management
committee representative of local organisations and social enterprises, we employ 11 staff with many years
of expertise in their individual fields.
Our services are free to beneficiaries within our areas of programme delivery. For areas outside of our
programme please visit the consultancy, commissioning and training page.
Origins
Established in 1982 as a local social enterprise to support employment initiatives for the unemployed and
disadvantaged, the Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency consolidated training and support for
co-operatives and local organisations.
The agency became a specialist social enterprise support organisation for national and regional models
of enterprise, with funding and investment from:
- LDA European Social Fund (ESF)
- European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
- European Commission’s EQUAL initiative (EQUAL)
- Greenwich Council
- Greenwich Teaching Primary Care trust
- The National Lottery
- Single Regeneration Budget (SRB)
- London Development Agency (LDA)
- Individual Trusts

Communities
An outstanding example of our community involvement has been a network of 15 food co-operatives
Greenwich Community Food Co-op, established throughout the Borough, offering access to affordable fresh food and a range
of information services on health and lifestyle that are delivered in close partnership with
Greenwich Primary Care Trust (GPCT),
Greenwich Council
and third sector organisations including
Age Concern and
Volunteer Centre Greenwich.
