Greenwich Community Food Co-op
Greenwich Community Food Co-op (GCFC) was established in 2002 as a co-operative run by the community for the community. GCFC was established to provide areas of Greenwich, with high levels of deprivation, improved access to affordable fruit and vegetables.
The Food Co-op started life on the Ferrier Estate, Kidbrooke and was formed by local residents with strong support from the Greenwich Teaching Primary Care Trust now NHS Greenwich and Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency (GCDA).
The success of the Ferrier Food Co-op was picked up on by other people in other areas of Greenwich and gradually stalls in other areas were set up. In addition, the Food Co-op makes wholesale sales to community centres, schools and offices throughout the borough.

Establishing Co-ops
Community Needs Assessments are being carried out in a number of new locations throughout Greenwich including children centres, community centres and Greenwich Market.
GCDA have established tools to support the development of food co-ops. You can download or view this document by clicking here…
If you are interested in helping to establish a co-op in Greenwich where you work or live please contact us.
Local Sourcing
GCFC is very committed to promoting the sales of regionally grown produce. During the Spring & Summer of 2010, GCFC will be increasing the range of regional produce available on their stalls and continuing to attempt to develop direct links with producers.
Although in small quantities, there are times when our own Greenwich produce can be found on stalls grown through the Growing Greenwich project.
Sales to Workplaces
In addition to our stalls listed above, the Food Co-op also makes bulk deliveries of fruit and veg to workplaces, school kitchens, school tuckshops, day centres etc. Currently, the Food Co-op supplies Greenwich Council offices in Woolwich, primary schools across the borough, Age Concern and others.
