Social Enterprise
GCDA is a social enterprise development agency serving the diverse communities
in the Greenwich area. Our work is focused on the development of and support for democratically managed
models of social enterprise meeting the needs of local communities. Our aims are to promote, develop and
support cooperatives and social enterprises as part of a local sustainable economic development programme.
We encourage potential community entrepreneurs to put their ideas into practice and create ownership
models which commit to social enterprise. This service includes assessing the viability of the
idea, assessment of the skills of those involved, legal models, market research and business
planning. We also offer business counselling for trading concerns, assessment of financial
performance, advice on fundraising and marketing.
We offer general advice and support on models of managing social enterprise businesses. Social enterprise
models can include worker co-operatives, community managed enterprises, community organisations with
charitable objectives, voluntary organisations and charities. The general emphasis of social enterprises
will be to improve local community environments, safeguard existing jobs create new business and employment
opportunities.
We support groups and individuals in setting up their business via start-up training programmes, from
basic introductory programmes to comprehensive programmes providing nationally recognised business
management and administration qualifications.
We can also offer a range of tailor-made trading sector training services from short one day programmes to
comprehensive courses on managing and running a co-operative enterprise.
