Guarida Community Café

The Ferrier is a large housing estate which is going through massive changes under a regeneration scheme through a partnership that includes Greenwich Council, Berkeley Homes, English Partnerships, Southern Housing Group and ASRA. The existing local residents are involved in retaining an identity and creating employment opportunities within the community. The group has taken an opportunity given by Greenwich Council to use one of the empty shops in Telemann Square and turn it into Guarida Community Café which will become the heart of the community engagement while the transformation of the estate takes place. Guarida Community Café will provide healthy and affordable food based on South American and Caribbean cuisine to commuters, local residents, businesses and students of a large local secondary school. Guarida has already built a reputation of its quality foods and services by delivering to local offices and for private functions.

GCDA has supported Guarida in developing the structure, the business plan and some operational support. We are grateful for the opportunity provided to Rosa Goncalves by Greenwich Council, Southern Housing Group and the support from the School for Social Entrepreneurs during 2007 and 2008 that facilitated the establishment of the social enterprise.
